5 year architectural undergraduate program affiliated with Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University.

Periyar School of Architecture, Delhi is being mentored by Ar. Premendra Raj Mehta, former President of Council of Architecture and his practice partner Shri Ar BD Dahiya. They bring with them forty years of experience in practice. The School of Architecture is affiliated to Indraprastha University and has approval of Council of Architecture to Commence five year B.Arch program from academic Session 2021-2022. The school is located in South Delhi in the Jasola Institutional area and is easily accessible by the Violet and Magenta lines of the Delhi Metro Rail Network.

The design philosophy of PERIYAR SCHOOL OF ARCHITECTURE derives from the definition of Sustainable Development - environmental, economic and social development over generations. With an emphasis on 'Green technologies" and eco-friendly ways of developing the built environment the department strives to focus on urban regions- the engines of economic development while highlighting cultural overtures of architecture and its role in defining the grammar of the built environment.

The mission of Periyar School of Architecture is to provide a dynamic professional education platform in architecture emphasizing excellence education, research and service to the community.

  1. Ar. Premendra Raj Mehta
    Ex-President, Council of Architecture

    Premendra Raj Mehta is former President of Council of Architecture, India. COA is a statutory Body created by Government of India under the provision of Architects Act 1972, and it is charged with the responsibility to regulate Education and Practice of Architects, besides registering the Architects. Mr Mehta is currently the Chairman of National Board of Accreditation for Education and Training ( NABET ) of Quality Council of India and member of Technology Sub Mission of Housing for All mission of Government of India.

    Mr Mehta is former member of Research Council of Central Building Research Institute, Roorkee ( CSIR-CBRI), Lalit Kala Academy and Chairman of All India Board of Architecture, Town Planning & Applied Art Education of AICTE. He has been member of National Board of Accreditation, GATE Committee of Ministry of Education and several other forums concerned with development of higher Education in India. He has also been a member of Expert Committee of Ministry of Commerce on Services.

    Mr Mehta is former member of Research Council of Central Building Research Institute, Roorkee ( CSIR-CBRI), Lalit Kala Academy and Chairman of All India Board of Architecture, Town Planning & Applied Art Education of AICTE.     Mr Mehta has represented India at WTO and has participated in several Bilateral and Multilateral negotiations on Market Access. He has also presented a paper of Recognition of Qualification at WTO, Geneva. He has spoken, as Key Note Speaker, at several national and International Conferences on subject of Architectural Education, Higher Education, Urban Design and Urban Management, General Agreement on Trade in Services, Professional Practice etc.

    Extensively travelled, Mr Mehta is in active practice since 1979 and he is the Architect for the Redevelopment of Connaught Place, New Delhi. He holds post graduate qualification in Urban Design and is an Alumnus of School of Planning and Architecture, New Delhi. He has been a Visiting Professor at his alma mater for over two decades.

    Mr Mehta is Director of Bhagwan Mahaveer Viklang Sahayata Samiti (BMVSS) known for Jaipur Foot and is a recipient of Helen Keller Award for service to Disabled

  1. Ar. Brahm Dev Dahiya

    Architect Brahm Dev Dahiya is a graduate of School of Planning and Architecture, New Delhi and has been in practice for nearly 45 years ( Design Action Group). He is known for his contribution in design of Educational Campuses including that of IIT Roorkee Campus at Greater Noida, Indian Institute for Information Technology, Una, Maharaja Surajmal Institute, New Delhi and Schools for NCT of Delhi. Mr Dahiya has designed several Industrial buildings, Housings, Townships and Hotels. Mr Dahiya has been a Visiting Professor and Examiner at Jamia Millia Islamia, a central University :New Delhi , Amity University :Noida, GGSIP University :New Delhi, Ayojan School of Architecture: Jaipur Mr Dahiya is a fellow of Indian Institute of Architects and is former Chairman of its Noida Centre. He is widely travelled in Canada and United States.

  2. D K Sharma

    D K Sharma is graduate in Architecture from University of Roorkee 1982 ( now IIT Roorkee). He began his career 30 years ago as an Exhibition and fashion designer and moved to Architecture in early 2000 to design some of the very inspiring projects in almost all parts of India. His landmark projects include Bhopal Airport, Port Blair Airport, IIIT Kaddapah, Indian Institute of Foreign Trade, Kakinada, Indian Maritime University Vishakhapattanam, Meghalaya Assembly New Shillong etc. His firm D K and Associates collaborates with Preston Scott Cohen (USA) for projects in India and abroad.

  3. Sandeep Kaushik

    Sandeep Kaushik has Master’s Degree in Traffic and Transport Planning from SPA New Delhi. He has been in active practice of Transport Planning since 1992. His notable projects include City Development Plan – Traffic and Transportation for New Delhi and Jaipur, Traffic planning for a number of Airports and Traffic circulation plan for Connaught Place, New Delhi, with emphasis on Pedestrianisation. Mr Kaushik is a Visiting Professor at School of Architecture at Deenbandhu Choturam University for Science and Technology, Murthal, Haryana

  4. Prakriti Mehta

    Prakriti Mehta is a Master of Urban Design from School pf Planning and Architecture, New Delhi and presently teaching at Balwant Sheth School of Architecture, NMIMS University, Mumbai. She is a researcher with keen interest in Policies concerning Migration and Housing. Her recent papers are published in official publications of HUDCO, BMTPC and Indian Institute of Architects. Ms Prakriti Mehta is a certified GRIHA Evaluator and has received commendation for her Design Entry for Mumbai Street Lab, a design competition organized by Mumbai Municipal Corporation and WRI. She currently assisting Dr Rommel Mehta, an eminent Landscape Architect & Zoo designer in coordination of implementation of Aurangabad Zoo.

  1. Kamal Raj
    Professor of Architecture & Head of the School

    An alumnus of School of Planning and Architecture, New Delhi (B.Arch 1981) and Asian Institute of Technology, Bangkok (M Sc Human Settlements Development 1987).Sh Kamal Raj brings with him nearly 40 years of experience of Architectural practice (Kamal Raj Architects), specializing in integrated multi disciplinary corporate interiors and design management. Some of his projects include Data Centres, Hospitality projects, resorts, Large multinational Office Interiors and Housings. A number of his projects are LEED Certified. A fellow of the Indian Institute of Architects, Sh Kamal Raj has been a visiting Professor at School of Planning and Architecture for over a decade and is known for his unique style of making students develop their sense of visualization of a context.

  2. MrSanjib Sengupta
    Professor of Architecture ( Design Chair)

    Sanjib Sengupta is former Chief Architect of NDMC ( New Delhi Municipal Council) and has a unique distinction of regulating development in one of the finest planned cities of the world. He has also been Secretary of Delhi Urban Arts Commission, a statutory Body overseeing aesthetics in Urban Architecture of New Delhi. He has had the privilege of having contributed towards maintaining the Parliament house, a living heritage. Mr Sengupta, while working for CPWD for over 35 years, has designed buildings in almost all the geoclimatic conditions of India. His projects include a school in Naharlagun, Arunachal Pradesh; Transit Guest Houses in Andaman & Nicobar Islands; Post Office & Telephone Exchange Building in Kolkatta; M.P. Housing & Supreme Court Lawyer’s Chamber in New Delhi, Super Specialty Hospital in Agartala etc. He is presently working on the design of IIIT Pune, a centrally funded institution. Mr Sengupta has been a member of Council of Architecture, representing State Govt and has been actively associated with development of mechanism for assessment of Maintenance of Minimum Standards of Education by Institutions imparting Architectural Education in India. Mr Sengupta is an alumnus of Jadavpur University, 1979 batch and enjoys his hobbies of sketching, photography and travelling.

  3. Richard Andre Barraud
    Visiting Professor of Architecture

    Richard Barraud is a graduate of School of Planning and Architecture, New Delhi (1979). He was part of the design team for Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium built for Asian Games 1982 and thereafter carried on his own practice for nearly 25 years. He has been engaged in research and Documentation of Moghul Architecture in India for over four decades, working with Dr Ebba Koch, Professor of Art History, University of Viena, Austria Mr Barraud is in full time teaching for last 15 years and is a visiting Professor at School of Planning and Architecture, New Delhi and at Dept of Interior Design , South Delhi Polytechnic, New Delhi. He has been a Jury member for several Universities

  4. Poonam Dewan
    Visiting Professor of Landscape Architecture

    Poonam Dewan is former Addl. Commissioner (Landscape) of Delhi Development Authority, New Delhi. She has been responsible managing the greens of the greenest city of the world. During her over 30 years of involvement in Landscape Design, Execution and Maintenance at DDA , she has contributed immensely in evolution of 3 Master Plans for National Capital Territory of Delhi, Bio Diversity Parks, Heritage Park, Degraded Landscapes, Urban Parks, Conservation of Delhi Ridge etc. Ms Dewan is MSc in Botany for Delhi University and Master Of Landscape Architecture from School of Planning and Architecture, New Delhi

  5. Ar Peu Banerjee
    Visiting Professor of Architecture

    A Gold Medalist from Jadavpur University and M. Phil from New Castle upon Tyne, Ar Peu Banerjee has over 30 years of teaching, training and research experience. She began her career at Shanti Niketan, worked on vernacular design with local materials & technologies and developed her sensitivities towards people Centric Sustainable Architecture, which she carries on in her studies and works till date. Her contribution in design and Construction of Primary Schools and housing for EWS, across India has won many accolades and these are examples which are quoted is discussions and research papers. Ms Peu Banerjee has taught at TVB School of Habitat Studies for over a decade and there after at IP University and School of Planning and Architecture, New Delhi

  6. Ms Mousumi Biswas
    Visiting Professor of Structural Design

    Ms Mousumi Biswas is a Civil Engineering Graduate from IIEST, Shibpur, Kolkata (1991) and Post Graduate in Structural Engineering from City University, London (1995). She has over 30 years of experience in structural analysis and design. She has done structural design of many multi- storeyed office complexes, shopping and multi utility complexes, residential buildings, and industrial buildings across the country. Ms Biswas has own independent practice in New Delhi and she works closely with Architects. She is also a visiting Professor at School of Planning and Architecture, New Delhi

  7. Ar Maliha Sultan Chaudhry
    Visiting Professor of Architecture

    Master of Architecture from Glasgow School of Art, UK 2008 and a graduate of TVB School of Habitat Studies 2006, Ar Maliha Sultan Chaudhry is a well known Design teacher. She has been with Pearl Academy for over a decade and her last assignment being as Head of the Institution, overseeing Pearl Academy’s 5 Campuses across the country. She has practiced Architecture in UK and India with leading firms, She has been responsible for design of Social Housing, Institutional and Hospital projects. She is a Visiting Professor at School of Planning and Architecture.

  8. Ar Raja Singh
    Assistant Professor of Architecture

    Ar Raja Singh is a Phd scholar at School of Planning and Architecture, New Delhi since 2019. He did his M. Arch (Energy efficient & Sustainable Architecture from NIT Trichy in year 2018 after completing his B.Arch from Punjab Technical University in 2016. He researches writes and presents papers on issues concerning Architecture and Public health & Ventilation. He also makes Videos and shares his thoughts on public platforms. Ar Raja Singh has worked on multiple projects including Printing Press and Visitor Centre for DSGMC, Saras Heritage School, Noida and Fish Feed Factory at Manipur. He has been a Visiting Faculty at School of Planning and Architecture, New Delhi

  9. Ar Mohd. Anas Arif
    Visiting Teaching Assistant

    Ar Anas is a post graduate in Architecture with distinction from Jamia Millia Islamia, India 2020, after completing his B.Arch in 2018. He has conceptualised several institutional projects, involving multidisciplinary inputs,including IIIT Pune and National Law University, Uttarakhand, at Design Action Group, New Delhi. He enjoys working on interiors and has travelled to China for exploring new materials and their application in his interior design projects. Ar Anas is well versed with , Revit 2021, Sketch , Adobe Photoshop, Adobe InDesign, MS Project, Vray 4.0, Lumion 10, Relux, Insight 360 Energy Analysis and QGIS.

  10. Ar Tushar Mondal
    Teaching Assistant

    Ar Tushar is a post-graduate in Architectural Design from University College London and a recipient of the Commonwealth Master’s Scholarship. His dissertation was featured in the BPro Show Book as a stand out research piece. He has been to Svalbard, Norway to study climate change in the Arctic. Ar Tushar is a alumnus of Jamia Milia Islamia 2018 and a free lance architect. He works on Rhino, Grasshopper, and the Adobe Suite fluently.

Programme

PSOA announces conduct of Summer and Winter Studios open for students of Architecture from any School Indian and abroad*. These are programmed and led by Senior academicians and practicing Architects, integrating their specialized knowledge in Design exercises. The Objective of these Studios is to inculcate a habit in students to do an in depth study of a particular aspect of a function and its design requirement; and seamlessly integrate the same in the concept of design itself. On the other hand, this shall be an opportunity for students to intermingle with students of different Schools and Culture and enrich themselves with different understanding of values and thinking. Learning from parallel design studios by witnessing each others work will happen anyway. Summer and Winter Studios shall be of 2 - 4 week duration to be conducted at Periyar School of Architecture, New Delhi for a batch of10 - 20 Student . The specialized subjects are being chosen from the field of Art, Ecology, Design, Science, Social sciences, Engineering and Technology. These may be conducted on Face to Face and Online mode. Some of the focus areas identified so far are aesthetics, sustainable design, illumination, Acoustics, Heritage, Contemporary Construction Technology like RCC Prefab or Steel Structures, Landscape etc. Application of Software in Design may be yet another focus, aimed to equip the students with Skills in demand. Design Studios are shall be for three different Levels viz for students who are 1st Year Pass, 2nd Year Pass and 3rd/4th year Pass. Study Tour, visit to Laboratory, Field visits etcmay be part of the proposed Studios. PSOA shall award a Certificate to every student, who successfully participates in a studio.

Invitation for proposals

Studio proposals are invited from Academicians, Architects, Artists, Engineers, Scientists and other Professionals from India and Abroad*. These must include Intent, Content, Process and Method of evaluation of Outcome. Requirement of additional resource persons and facilities required at the Institution, expected compensation may also be indicated. Proposals may be forwarded to Periyar School of Architecture during all times of a year.
